The movie Black Prince starring poet, philosopher, performer and singer Dr. Satinder Sartaaj is ready for it’s release.
For those of you who don’t know much about this Hollywood film, here’s all you need to know about Satinder Sartaaj’s debut movie.
The story is based on the life history of Maharaja Duleep Singh(played by Sartaaj), nicknamed the Black Prince of Perthshire. Duleep Singh was the last Maharaja of the Sikh Kingdom, Khalsa Raj. He was Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s youngest son and the only child of Maharani Jind Kaur (played by Shabana Azmi in the movie).Maharaja was young when put into the alien culture of Victorian England and he changed his religion to Christianity. He had a very tough life and The Black Prince shows the incidents of his life which led him towards changing his religion and much more.Brillstein Entertainment Partners executive Jai Khanna has co-produced The Black Prince. Written and directed by L.A.-based Indian filmmaker Kavi Raz this one is a bilingual English-Hindi project and is budgeted at about $5 million! The young prince was removed from the throne and eventually sent off to England. His attempts to return to India and reclaim his kingdom were thwarted by the British. He ended up a pauper, dying alone in a Paris hotel in 1893.

Satinder Sartaaj will be playing the lead role in the movie and Shabana Azmi is Maharani Jind Kaur. In an interview Sartaaj told that Maharaj Duleep Singh’s role required a lot of effort. Being his debut movie, he had to take acting classes from Kishore Namit Acting school, Mumbai.
He took a 12 day workshop and in this process he learnt that acting is an art which comes from within. Other than this he had to learn English in the British accent and that too which was prevalent during the 18th century. English in those days was very different than our present day English, for example thesedays we use the word don’t but back then everyone used to say Do Not instead of don’t.
The film also stars musician and actor David Essex and English actor Jason Flemyng, known for his roles in Snatch and TV series The Missing, and Parade’s End star, Rupert Everett.
The film is now being dubbed in Punjabi as well.

“Besides his patrician resemblance to the young Maharaja Dalip Singh, Sartaaj’s artistic instincts are highly intelligent and creative,” Raz said.
